I tend to spend my fair share of time dealing with food. Going to tastings to see what new menu items catering companies have to offer is probably one of my favorite things to do. Food is such an important factor for us and not because we need it to live, but because of the environments that it creates. Whether it’s in your grandmother’s kitchen or you invited friends over to help prepare for game night, food is one key factor that unites us. We have created food around routine things such as movie nights with nachos and popcorn to tacos and margaritas for holidays such as Cinco de Mayo.
I remember when my best friend was in culinary school learning how to create delicious dishes. I would hear about all the creative things he was doing in school and his aspirations to do more once he graduated. Well graduation came and I think I was more excited than he was solely because I wanted to go to the restaurant he worked at to try any new dish he created. My favorite to this day are his chicken tenders. Simple dish, but not how he makes them.
Just this weekend a group of us went to one of his locations to meet him and also to check out some new menu items that needed to be judged by friends of the chef. Of course we had a good time, but it wasn’t always oohs and ahhs for him or any of us learning how to cook. I think we’ve all made that horrible potato salad that no one touched. Perfection takes practice and because of that I wanted to give you some recipes you should start practicing now for your July 4th party.
